IN MEMORY OF...
Occasionally TRMF awards a Summer Scholarship "In Memory Of" someone who is special to Tim's Fund.
The first time we awarded a special "In Memory Of" Summer Scholarship was in 2006 when we awarded Angelique Lestagez a scholarship "In Memory Of" Pamela Jones-Malave, the beloved head of the dance department at the DeKalb School of the Arts. Ms. Jones-Malave fought a valiant fight against breast cancer, all the while teaching dance at DSA. Ms. Lestagez attended 2 summer programs: Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, Maine and Texas Christian University Summer Dance Workshop in Fort Worth, Texas.

In 2009 two special "In Memory Of" Summer Scholarships were awarded. The first was awarded to Emory Daniel "In Memory Of" Ben Eberbaugh.
Ben Eberbaugh was a young man who possessed a remarkable gift for the arts. Born on January 29, 1980, Ben attended Chesnut Elementary, Greater Atlanta Christian, and Dunwoody High Schools. He attended Auburn University and Truett McConnell, with hopes of transferring to the University of Georgia.
As a youth, Ben enjoyed football, but when he was 11, another passion came to light. Ben became interested in guitars and started taking lessons. At age 14, he began playing with different local bands. He also started learning to build guitars. With a kit from Martin Guitars, he made his first acoustic guitar. Ben and his father, Bob, soon took on the challenge of building an electric guitar, from scratch. They traced the outline of a music store guitar and ordered all the wood, strings and tools to complete their original creation. Ben's artistic talent was also revealed through the paintings and drawings he'd been creating since childhood, for which he'd won numerous awards. Ben stained his hand-made guitars and embellished them with extraordinary figures and designs to make them true works of art.
In 2002, on Thanksgiving Day, Ben and his band were making final preparations to leave on tour. Those plans were shattered when a drunk driver going the wrong way on Georgia 400 crashed into Ben's vehicle. On December 1, 2002, he died at the age of 22.
Ben's band left on tour the next day, as planned, in memory of their friend. It is the way Ben would have wanted it; for the music to continue to play.
